General Biographical Sketch

Josh Lonon is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell, the highest available rating for legal experience and competence. A graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as both Managing Editor of the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal and a nationally competing member of the Moot Court Bar, Josh began his legal career as law clerk for the Hon. G. Thomas Cooper, Jr., Judge for South Carolina’s Fifth Judicial Circuit. He then practiced with a firm in Columbia, South Carolina in the areas of title insurance defense litigation and complex commercial transactions.

Before returning to his home town of Spartanburg, Mr. Lonon worked as South Carolina state counsel for a national title insurance company, handling underwriting decisions and assisting attorneys across the state with legal research and solutions for real estate problems. In his role, he often wrote and presented materials for continuing educations seminars to attorneys across the state. Josh continues to speak at numerous legal seminars every year.

Josh founded his own firm in Spartanburg in 2007 and joined Johnson, Smith, Hibbard & Wlldman in 2014. He serves on the Real Estate Properties Section for the South Carolina Bar and the Board of Zoning and Appeals for the City of Spartanburg.  Josh has served on many non-profit boards including, most recently, as the chairman of the board for Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg.  He has also served as representative for both the Fifth and Seventh Judicial Circuits for the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar, and as representative of the YLD to the American Bar Association. In 2007, Josh co-founded Justice Jam, an event to raise funds for the Bar’s Pro Bono Program.

Josh is a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg and a Spartanburg Regional Fellow. He resides in Spartanburg with his wife, Julie, and his two sons, Alex and Charlie.

Josh is an avid runner and enjoys hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.
