General Biographical Sketch

Kristin graduated from the University of South Carolina – Spartanburg (n/k/a USC Upstate) in 1997 (BA – English) and 1998 (BA – Political Science) and received her Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law, Cum Laude, in May of 2002.  Kristin was the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Lee S. Alford, Circuit Court Judge for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina, from August 2002 until August 2003.  She joined the firm as an associate in August of 2003.  Since joining the firm, Kristin’s practice areas have included civil litigation, business transactions, real estate, collections, probate administration, foreclosure and creditor’s rights including creditor’s rights in bankruptcy.  Recently, she has focused her practice in the areas of collections, foreclosure, and creditor’s rights in bankruptcy.  Kristin represents both lenders and borrowers in statewide foreclosure and loan-work-out matters.  She appears regularly in front of Masters-in-Equity across the state.  Kristin is currently a member of the Spartanburg County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association.

While in college, Kristin was USC Upstate’s Political Science Student of the Year (1998) and USC Upstate’s German Student of the Year (1998).   She is a graduate of the 2005 Class of Leadership Spartanburg. Kristin is married to Stephen F. Barber and they have a daughter.
